Having fun with finesMy friend Cecil likes to have a bit of fun. He turns almost every negative experience into a positive one. Fortunately he has a few quid...

So you're aware of them then. On unfamiliar roads which look like they're likely to have speed traps I stick to around the limit. Mobile traps tend to be fairly near towns or villages so open roads that I speed along tend to be fairly safe. For fixed cameras that are hidden you can still see the road markings and they're pretty rare now with the rules governing placement.
No as i've never seen a plain camera van. Most people who seem to panic brake do it far to late to do them any good. I though most of the M42 cameras were gantry mounted and only turned on when the limits were reduced. As for the M25 the bits I've used (M40-M23) I didn't have much chance to speed due to traffic volume. I don't often drive more than an indicated 80 on motorways now so I've little chance of getting done and little risk of getting caught.
I'd agree they do nothing to catch bad drivers who stay below the limit but they're a simple way of catching those who exceed it. If technology could be used to catch bad drivers then I'm all for it. I'm surprised a device that catches tailgaters on motorways hasn't been introduced as it would be fairly easy to implement.
