New Jersey Legislator Wants to Ban Smoking in Your Car 5032
william lynch By that logic, let's ban V-8 engines, since all they do is waste gas, encourage speeding, yadda, yadda, yadda.... That or we could simply enforce the existing anti...

I'm not stupid. I'm highly educated, especially in the field of mental ilnesses, including the alcoholism, and have researched the problem in-depth.

Trust me, I could make you act unreasonably and irresponsibly, should you consent to the experiment. I could make you do some totally stupid things. Crazy things, violent things, while understanding that what you are doing is illegal, dangerous, can get you in trouble.

All I need to do is to alter the biophysical processes inside your brain by either applying a measured amounts of low-voltage electric current to certain areas of your brain. Or inject you with some well-known, combined with some lesser-known chemicals, which would alter your mind in a way you can't believe is possible.

The problem with the mentally ill, including the alcoholics is, that frequently their brains become a biochemical mess naturally, which in turn make them to produce violent bioelectric ministorms. All of that create conditions, under which those people get our of their own willful control. They may understand that what they are doing is wrong, but have no ability whatsoever to resist the drive to do it. That's what make some people drink, use drugs, watch loveography, commit violent acts, rape, drive while under influence. In some cases of specific illnesses, there's no power in the world that could stop them from doing that. Their brains are in the condition your brain would be if you'd permitted me to alter it one way or another. They are ill, that's it.

Bruce Mallory I'm ashamed to admit that I agree with xeton2001 here. Of course you can. OTOH, it...

If you can stop drinking after having a beer or two, it doesn't mean everybody can. If I can stop eating after only a moderate amount of food, it doesn't mean you can do it too. Yes, I can have three or four drinks and understand that's too many drinks to drive. Others after a few drinks get an enormous, unstoppable urge to go, to get away, to drive, to fly....And nothing and nobody can stop them. That's a symptom of an illness.

Risk perception
I am interested to hear how other drivers rank the relative risks of the following manoeuvres. Scenario is a high speed D2AP busy rural twin lane dual carriageway (no hard...

If we stopped treating the symptoms and the symptoms only, and start researching the very causes and handle the problem by its roots, we could all be living in a much safer, much more beautiful world. That requires a lot of mental ablities, a badly deficient commodity in our society and elsewhere in the world.

It's easier to apply brutal police powers and claim ownership over someone's life, condeming him to suffer his life in prison, than to claim ownership over his problem and solve it by hitting at its very roots.
