Of course you can. OTOH, it is ordinarily within my power to refuse to let you do that to me. If I let you do it without a fight, indeed, if I BEG you to do it, then some part -- probably a large one -- of the result can be blamed on me.
Hrm. I suspect that you make a living treating alcoholics. How many "cures" have you had, and how long before they relapsed? How many were "cured" before they decided themselves that they'd had enough? What if one of your patients end four people in four different "accidents"? At some point (and I think it comes long before a drunk kills his first victim) it's just not acceptable to excuse the guy because he says "I'm sick."
If he's sick, put him in a hospital until he isn't sick. Then we can consider the proper punishment for his offense. If that takes a lifetime, well, then it takes a lifetime.
