A New Category of Sloth 3326

I'm asking you. You put so much into legality and keep saying too bad for everyone else, it seems (as I wrote above) what you mean.

Ummm no. We have no recommended speeds, simply speed limits usually set for traffic volumes 50 years ago, for the complaints of some busy bodies, or for revenue generation. Politics cannot properly set an engineering system.

Just a few blocks from where I write this is one of numerous intersections that the priority programing is set for just the opposite. This T intersection is programmed such that the stem of the T, a residential subdivison road, should have anything cross its sensor trips the light and stops traffic on the arterial.

If everyone followed the speed limit, the congestion would be more crushing than it is today. 55mph limited access highway speedlimits and the like.

P) It is just dumb luck if you keep doing it and don't run across the eventual psychotic which will not back down. I've done these highway duels myself. Its not something I...

You keep saying it, but you cannot back it up. If lane discipline is followed there is no problem. Your theory that too many people reach a light is completely wrong unless the lights are miles apart. When there is one every half mile, it's simply impossible for 'too many' to reach one light without too few reaching another.

Seemed otherwise.

That's what enablers do. They sit there, letting everyone in while everyone behind them gets to wait. Or the enablers sit there, blocking traffic with the green signal so 5 or 6 or 10 conga line left turners can go through and then just as the arrow is going yellow, he slothily goes through leaving everyone else at the light for another cycle. Because he let all those people with a red signal through.

See, here you go again.

Yeah, everything is delivered by SUV.

A New Category of Sloth 3332
gpsman Well... since speed limits are supposedly enacted for the safety of and with the consent of the general public, if EVERYONE...

Trucking should be local delivery only.

Those are the sloth behaviors. Those are what you are defending by arguing against me.

That wouldn't be legal.

Not by much.

Obviously, but I already defined my usage of it.

I am using bicycling experience to show it has nothing to do with the speed limit, but behavior at the intersections. To counter your insistance that it is some how related to people exceeding the posted speed limit. I find sloth drivers interfering with the flow, causing me and others to wait multiple cycles at traffic lights, etc as much or more when I use a bicycle.

Planned? There is no plan. The intersections are driven by programing and sensor loops. The cross traffic trips the sensor, the light goes red.

It doesn't need to be as excessive as sloth drivers slow and their total inability to accelerate until perfectly straight is another issue.

There is no expected, there is no timing of lights one into the other. The programing is driven by the sensor inputs. The only timing of lights that I know of is in the city of chicago proper where people are watching cameras and looking at sensor data and switching traffic lights and areas where lights are still run on fixed timing. Those antiques are almost entirely within the city of chicago proper, where I don't drive much.

Bingo.

I certainly do. I get my butt through the intersection so others behind me can make it. I keep alert. I observe strict lane displine, etc and so forth.

No, the traffic problems everyone around here faces because people don't stay alert and take forever to clear intersections.

So, when you sit there giving up the right of way to anyone that wants it and then you go through the intersection on yellow, leaving the people behind you sitting there, you certainly have delayed them.

But you also hold up traffic to surrender the right of way.

Not at all. I can legally do exactly that in many situations. But since it's slower than you, it's an irrelevant exagerration.

A New Category of Sloth 3330
gpsman The point you miss is that all the other drivers in the driving situations you cite are the ones who do *not* have the right of way. Drivers pulling out of side streets, making...

Read my definition of sloth again. You're arguing that sloth are perfectly acceptable, and much the way you drive. If that's not how you drive and you find such driving to be sub-par, why do you have arguement with me?

A New Category of Sloth 3327
And when the other driver doesn't back down. You get that race to the tollbooth picture that was posted not long ago. Is it really worth risking a crash to...

When traffic is so on the edge of tipping, sloth make the difference. One cannot reduce the traffic volume, but one can drive better.

Yet, drivers often go through turns so slow that I am in danger of not having enough forward velocity to stay upright on a bicycle.

That's the arguement you seem to be making. Who cares, it's bad, so what if you make it worse. Given that arguement, I should take the lane with my bicycle all the time.
