You can claim that, but I would claim you are wrong. I have been keeping gas mileage records for almost 20 years. I drive the same trips over and over...

Well, the last time I measured it, I started with a full tank of gas, drove 294 miles (averaging 78MPH), and when I went to refill the tank afterward, the pump cut itself off at about 6.5 gallons. I topped it off a few times until the pump read exactly 7 gallons. But it actually took less than 7 gallons to go that 294 miles. If I keep it below 70MPH, I almost always get 35MPG, plus or minus. I've seen mileage above 42MPG also, but 42MPG is usually the best I can do, if I can keep the engine near ~3500RPM in 5th gear. (about 78MPH)

On a side note, Consumer's Union claims that I should be getting 23MPG (yes, 23, that's not a typo) mixed with this vehicle. The lowest I've ever measured in mixed driving conditions was 32MPG, in severe winter weather. The Galant I'm writing about isn't the only Galant I've driven, either. I've driven a newer slushbox version, also. It gets almost as good mileage, if I'm behind the wheel. (there is nothing "unique" about my particular car) I suspect CU is not particularly careful in collecting data. :)

As I wrote earlier, every vehicle I've ever driven has exceeded EPA estimates. I'm not exactly a conservative driver, either. If you ever see me doing 55, it's because I'm in a 35 zone and not in a hurry at all.

gas over. I Sure I can actually get different mileage, but for the same trip...
