Exactly!
I was stopped by an officer for speeding around 22 years ago. The officer explained to me why speeding in that location was dangerous - something I had not considered. He did not give me a ticket, but his professional approach certainly affected the way I drove.
At the end of the lecture, we had a little chat and a laugh. I left feeling the officer was quite justified in what he said and why I was stopped. That one meeting gave me a great deal of respect for the job the police were doing (this atbreastude got me a lot of grief on this group as Mark will no doubt confirm).
Contrast that now with my utter contempt for the method of speed control and lack of judgment shown. Cameras and vans ARE being used to generate revenue and numbers to show accident rates are falling. Drivers stick ridgidly to the limit frustrating the hell out of others, leading to road rage and dangerous driving.
As an ex traffic officer, I would have hoped you would be on the side of safe and brisk motoring, using good observation and anticipation. It appears you are on the side of dumbing down - too short sighted to see the affect this is having on safety and peoples perception of the police in general.
