Is that perhaps because the Police aren't anything to do with setting the limit, but they are responsible for policing it.

FWIW, the stretch outside my house is about to be changed from a 40 to a 30 (as of tomorrow!).

It's not the people who do 2 or 3 mph above the limit that's the problem. It's the utter prats0 who drive through at 60 and even 801.

I'm hoping that the new limit will keep them down a little. Many people see a 40 and think "not too important", but who may take more notice of a 30.

0 I'd like to use stronger language. I'm also sure that 50% of them (at least) are local, because once they've hoofed it past, you can hear them slow down, as though they're making a turn.

1 The other ones are the trucks in convoy, using full throttle for some reason. I realise cargo has to be moved, but 20 trucks long, at full throttle, at 10:30 at night!
