The stretch between Thornholme and Haisthorpe used to be NSL. In fact it used to be NSL all the way from Burton Agnes to Carnaby. Last year the whole stretch from just outside Carnaby to Burton Agnes was reduced to 40MPH. This road is a good quality wide SC A road with excellent visibility. The section from Thornholme to Haisthorpe is straight, flat and with open fields to either side.
I guarantee that if you were driving down it, you would think that it was a completely inappropriate speed limit and not one to be respected.
WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW, but I do being local, is that for several months of the year there used to be a very serious road closing accident on that stretch virtually every week. And yes you'd be quite reasonable in questioning why. I don't know either but it does. HOWEVER since the introduction, there's only been a few times this year.
So just because you don't think a speed limit is suitable for an area just looking at the road as you drive down it doesn't mean a reason doesn't exist.
