I have attended numerous road traffic accidents where motorists have hit children who have run out into the road without warning. The vast majority of such incidents occur, of course, in urban areas with 30 mph speed limit - and often when parents have been present but unable to intervene.
If you even say
Ignore doorway and simply consider possibility of children running out into the road from any number of locations hidden to an approaching driver. I went to one accident where a driver swerved to avoid a dog that ran out into the road and promptly ran into a cyclist coming the other way and end him.
Now I know what you are going to ask next: how many of these accidents were caused by speeding - and I can't answer that because they were a long time ago. It is an inescapable physical fact, however, that in such circumstances the chances of avoiding, and the likelihood of causing more serious injury or rest, will increase with speed.
Yes I do - but how many other motorists remember that (if they were ever taught it!).
I was in Suslove Police when I did my initial 'general driving' course.
