Scary stuff. There's a lot of energy in a big truck's tire and wheel when moving at highway speeds, and even the (relatively) soft rubber part can put the hurt on you. It can also bounce around a good long ways, hopping center divides and so forth. People can and do get end when the whole wheel comes off, which fortunately is a rare problem (usually attributable, I think, to a brain cramp on the part of whoever was supposed to torque the nuts).
Aack! Had a CT experience. 4262I wouldn't be surprised if the highway patrol encourages them not to, at least if the gator ends up in a traffic lane. "Hey, this walking out onto...
Even being nearby in a small or open car when a truck emits a "gator" is a really attention getting experience, according to a friend who went through it (fortunately without getting smacked).
You'd have to be lucky as well as good to straddle that tire and wheel with any but the highest-riding pickups (and, of course, you'd need for it lay down by the time you got there). They're wider than they look, and except for a few like the "real" Hummer that have a tunnel of exceptional width and height down there, most of 'em have a number of things sticking out underneath. If you caught it with one of your own tires instead of straddling it, you'd be bouncing everywhichaway for a little while. I guess anything's better than taking it on the hood or windshield so that it comes inside to visit, though.
