Kev.... I was taking these lines through bends long before I took my driving test or had even heard of Roadcraft. To me it was obviously the way to take a bend, both for speed and best sight line through the bend. The only time I have not taken bends that way was whilst I was actually out on the driving test session. To be honest I buttumed I would fail the test if I took them that way. Everyone I have taught, I have taught them to do it this way, but suggested (right or wrong) that they take a parallel line around a bend on the test.
Up to that point, the only 'teaching' I gained, was as I grew up watching my father drive and too be honest (again), his driving was terrible. Not a good example to follow at all.
As I said, it was so obvious and perfectly logical to do it this way. So why are we trying to suggest it should need to be taught?
Of course I do appreciate the above is just one element of advanced driving and that there are very many others.
Personally, I think that the main thing which many drivers need to be taught, is to just give their driving the attention it deserves.
