If it's a month away from when u have the 12 point limit, then wait a while for the NIP (up to two weeks) and then wait a little while to post off the next bit of paperwork where you actually send off your licence for points. At this point, opt for the court option. This takes you out of the month limit and hey presto you are in 12 point land ;-)
Having just got rid of my points, I can say that as far as everyone is concerned (insurance etc) it's the date of conviction not the date of offending which counts. When you go to court.
The absolute way to do it is to opt to go to court. Of course, some nasty beaks may go for 4 points instead of 3 for having the cheek to turn up, so innocently go to court and say 'hands up guv, I did it and I am sorry' and in mitigation (the bit at the end where they take whatever into account) say the camera was a little obscured, not well lit, not enough speed limit signs or something that you wanted the court to know about this particular camera, and although you don't see this as a reason not to issue the points cos 'I did the crime' etc, you just wanted the offical powers to know about this peculiarity about the camera in question. This way the conviction date is when u go to court, and not the speed camera photo date. Bob's yer uncle and the date of getting the next set of points is going to be well into 12 point land.
No guarantees but having been busted in N Wales I found my insurance didn't come down at the point I was 3 years afer the offence, but 3 years after getting the points, which was 6 months later when I went to court for trial (it wasn't my choice to go to court shall we say...;-)
Hope it helps
