This road is one of the major trans-pennine links. It is one of the best of them; fast, reasonably direct, and a good way to get between Leeds and Bradford. In consequence, it carries a lot of traffic, in both directions.
The traffic group, the Northern Way group, want to change all this. They reckon the M62 is congested, and this is impeding business and generally isn't a particularly good state of affairs.
What they want to do is stick road tolls on this road.
This will have the immediate effect of raising quite a lot of money, and peeing off everybody who uses any roughly parallel road which presumably won't get a road toll slapped on it; so Halifax, Huddersfield and the like can presumably look forward to the rumble of heavy lorries in future dodging the tolls.

Isn't this sort of thing just typical of the current lot of economic illiterates? You've got lots of trade happening, and you want more to happen, so you go and plan a tax on that trade (right at the time the trans-pennine rail link is similarly at capacity and pretty well jammed too) to force traffic off the only reasonable link in that area.
Are these people thick or what?
