Another Reason to Like Red Light Cameras

Woman in crash could face fines

By: North County Times -

POWAY ---- A woman who allegedly ran a red light and caused a five-vehicle injury crash in Poway faces hundreds of dollars in fines because the whole thing was caught on camera, a sheriff's sergeant said Monday.

The crash at Ted Williams Parkway and Pomerado Road happened about 11 a.m. Sunday, sheriff's Sgt. J.T. Faulkner said.

The woman was driving her vehicle south on Pomerado about 53 mph when she approached a red light, Faulkner said.

"The speed is unsafe because the light's red," Faulkner said.

The woman allegedly drove through the light and sideswiped a vehicle, which struck another vehicle, Faulkner said.

The woman's vehicle then struck another vehicle ---- this one making a turn onto northbound Pomerado ---- head-on, Faulkner said.

That vehicle was pushed back into a truck, which then spun out, the sergeant said.

Three people, including the offending driver, were taken to hospitals, one of them to a trauma center at Palomar Medical Center, Faulkner said. Two others went to Pomerado Hospital, he said.

The crash was caught on a red-light video camera installed at the intersection to catch scofflaws in the act, the sergeant said.

"After looking at the vehicle, we decided to issue a citation," Faulkner said.

While it'd be nice if she stopped, hopefully all the people hurt by this dumb unpleasant woman will be able to sue her homeless as a result of the video.
