Another accident query

Hi all,

Earlier on this week, I got a hire car at Heathrow, and they only had automatics available. (can you see where this is going?)

About five minutes away from the hire car depot, I stopped at traffic lights leading onto a roundabout. I pulled away, then instinctively put my foot on the clutch to go into second gear (which obviously meant that I slammed on the brakes)

Car behind me lightly nudged me. The car behind him is going a bit faster and causes a lot more damage.

M25 variable speed question
Hi all, I have recently had the misfortune to be required to drive regularly over that section of the...
Cycling to work 80
Nick Finnigan Inna flat area, and onna half-decent bike (and why should someone commuting by bike not have an adequate machine...

It turned out that no damage at all was sustained by my car. (verified by hire car company who have all the details of the incident) The car behind me was a bit more seriously damaged but was driven away by the driver. The car behind that had to be towed away.

Obviously I was very lucky here, but I am wondering what happens next. Will the guy at the very back be considered responsible for all the damage as he didn't stop in time, or will I be considered to be to blame? (N.B. I have no intention of lying about what happened as has been suggested by many people)

Also, as I was driving on the hire company's insurance, does this affect my own insurance? Do I have to declare this as an accident? (as no damage was done to me or my car :) Would it make any difference to my insurance premiums if I was considered to be 100% at fault?

Thanks, Sean
