says... Start reversing back and apply a little lock. Watch in the mirror to see where the trailer is going then increase or reduce the lock a little as required.
Damn Bliars BackExcept now we are the aggressors against world freedom instead of the defenders of it...
The trick is to make small changes in steering and allow the trailer time to start turning before making corrections.
Also try the following.
(buttume the gap where you need the trailer to go is on the right)
Always try and approach the gap the trailer is going into so the gap is on the driver side. This allows you to hang out the door to see where its going if you need to.
Drive into the gap as much as possible then back out again at a 45 degree angle to the gap. After about a trailers length, put on some right lock, travel forward until the rear of the trailer is just past the gap and stop. At this point the car should be roughly in the original line of travel before you started to turn towards the gap with the trailer at an angle, its rear pointing towards the gap. Apply a little left lock and start reversing. Watch where the trailer goes. Once the trailer starts to go into the gap, slowly start reducing the lock to "straight ahead" then slowly apply right lock until you've lined up in front of the trailer.
