Conor Well, true to an extent. The DIP switches are normally 'protected' by 'security' stickers. There are multiple techniques of by-pbutting them. On the...

How is driving at 50 mph in L1 of a motorway a danger to themselves? I ask for information, not to make a point, or to troll. Sorry if I'm slow on the uptake.

On a previous point in the thread, there are several methods of modifying tachographs so that they under-read speed. in one method, essentially, small boxes of electronics (which can be hidden 'somewhere' in the wiring loom) are available that intercept the pulses coming from the sender on the measured axle, and re-send fewer pulses to the tacho. I'm told they can be configured to under read by 10-20%. Obviously illegal.

In theory, the new digital tachographs that are mandated for new installations get round this particular scam by requiring encrypted speed sensors, but the law does not require replacement of old tachographs.

Other methods of tampering with tachograph records include replacing the fuse that feeds the tachograph with a blown fuse, or disconnecting other sensors to provide 'evidence' of non-existent rest breaks.

All of the above is academic unless you can also disable the speed limiter - but again, there are methods.

There are heavy fines (and loss of licence) which can lead to loss of livelihood for people caught, but the pressures on drivers at the cheaper end of the road-haulage industry are large enough to mean there will be a significant number of commercial vehicles on the road that are capable of going faster than the speed limiter should allow, and faster than the relevant speed-limits.

Conor Well, you snipped the bit where I said 'other things being equal'. Nonetheless, as a percentage, buttuming what you say is true...
