Comfortably Numb
My initial impression is that they would stand a much better chance of being taken seriously if they didn't have the "my car is better than yours" atbreastude so clearly stated throughout the text. They seem to rely on this as proof that they weren't racing as they would have easily won , but they don't take into account that when racing on the public highway the "winner" is often the person with the least regard for their own safety. My bike can , on paper , easily outperform a wide range of cars but if I were to try and race on anything but a flat straight road I'd almost certainly back off way before a couple of young lads with an adrenaline rush in a boy-racers car. On a track with wide run off areas (and someone elses bike) I'd walk all over them. It's quite reasonable to think that they were racing , the guy in the 200sx realised the danger and slowed , the one in the fiesta didn't and crashed.
As for the legal side of things , if they were racing then it's not hard to argue that this was dangerous driving. As a direct result of this driving a rest occurred hence the conviction. The court was obviously satisfied that there was enough evidence to show they were racing.
