Until recently, one could certainly say that most white people arriving here shared our customs and beliefs. Now, of course, we are being deluged with immigrants from Eastern Europe, so that no longer necessarily holds true.
More to the point is that, before the Eastern influx, white people generally came from the sort of countries that would not afford them the sort of sanctuary from UK law that some immigrants appear to find in places like Pakistan.
