Are cyclists allowed to race on public roads 802

So, 'motorists' who, by definition drive 'motor' vehicles on public roads ARE paying to use those roads. (Although that is besides the point)

But there is! See the earlier posts regarding racing cyclists travelling so close to each other as to be unable to reduce speed safely in an emergency. Also, consider the frustration caused to motorised road users in having to avoid said cyclists when they (typically) emerge from side roads with no regard for the Give Way signs.

Matt B Whatever. Parking on double yellow lines, parking on pavements; I'm sure you know what I mean. Blocking the pavements and causing extensive damage to them, for a start. Everyone gets benefit from...

Matt B snip The pavement is not a car park; the highway is not a stabling yard...

More cobblers. I will, with my last breath, defend anyone's right to go about their business in a free country. That includes being considerate and couteous to all road users and being aware of differing levels of vulnerability. However, in conducting your sport on public highways you restrict ~my~ ability to go about my business. So, by all means ride your bicycles on public roads - you have as much right to do so as anyone else has to use those roads. When I see you I will, as always, give you plenty of clearance, make allowances for that side-wind, and move over if I'm in stop-start traffic queues to let you pbutt. But, when I see a Marshall waving a flag in an attempt to make me, as a driver, wait while you selfishly enjoy your road races, I will ignore him and go about my business as ususal. If that offends you then, frankly, tough poo. If you can't see the unfairness of your own argument then you are clearly not worth the debate.
