I went for a drive on Saturday in rural Stirlingshire, near where I live. Between Drymen and Aberfoyle there was some sort of "official" bike race going on. Within a 8 mile stretch I came across over 100 cyclists all taking part in the race, riding 3 or 4 abreast causing huge congestion. They made no effort to allow overtaking, of course as it was a race. There were at times groups of 10 to 20 cyclists who were virtually impossible to pbutt. There was even a "leader car" which was driving no faster than the bikes, with hazards on and big signs saying "WARNING : BIKE RACE". The most ridiculous thing is that between these 2 towns there is a single track backroad which has been resurfaced and highly advertised as a cycle route. It is largely free from motorised traffic and cyclists are encourgaed to use it. Are cyclists allowed to race on public roads and if so do they have to apply for any licence to do so?
Hello,
I find people on bikes fairly annoying. I would have overtaken and then sat infront of them doing about 10mph making sure they couldn't get past. Then they might know how annoying they are and what a menace they can be by putting themselves in danger so often.
