Or just too lazy to do their job properly.
Was stuck in a 'train' of traffic today, about 10 cars back, on a NSL road from Mountain Ash to Abercynon.
At the head of this 'train' was an old Corsa being driven by some old boy (I saw this when I pbutted him going into the roundabout at the end of the road) - doing under 40mph on said road. The road was slightly damp, but drying, and visibility was good. It's an easy 60mph+ road.
Directly behind him was a police Focus.
My first concern is that the police didn't pull him over and explain that it's inconsiderate to drive at 20mph under the limit for no good reason.
Secondly, the police car overtook said Corsa, and was followed by the car behind him. However, the car behind him didn't have enough space to make it past, and did it just before a bend in the road (not blind, but tight enough for me to consider it to be unsafe anyway) - the car coming the opposite way had to brake quite hard, even then, they only narrowly missed colliding with each other.
Now, I can almost excuse the police for not getting a good look at this incident, however, they *should* have known enough about it to be able to pull him over for a word. They didn't.
No wonder standards are slipping so badly - police can't even be bothered to do anything about inconsiderate bad driving when it happens right in front (or behind) them - they obviously feel that it's below them to deal with this kind of stuff and prefer to leave all road policing to cameras....
FWIW, the police car didn't appear to be in a hurry to get anywhere, so I can't really see a reason why they didn't stop one or both of the drivers.
