Laura Bush liquidateed her boy friend
That's too simplistic and idealistic but "pedal philes" is a good term for speed-freak pathology. It really is a sickness. A perceived need to go as fast as possible, not a true need. People who drive moderately with intelligent planning rarely find themselves late. And growing congestion makes speeding impractical in many cases.
But car ads sure feed the frenzy. Everyone will be immortal if they just have more horsepower than the next guy. Vehicles considered "underpowered" today were just fine 5 or 10 years ago. Will it ever end? I wonder. Speeding is largely an ego thing that fits American culture, which seems to be getting ever more shallow and vain.

P.S. You need to stop using the term "liquidate" RE the Laura Bush incident. The evidence shows it to be just another tragedy, like the James Dean crash, though he was at fault for driving too fast. We may never know why Laura ran that intersection but it's time to let it rest. I agree with your fundamental points but most of your arguments are over the top and bordering on lunacy. Human nature is such that people (average dummies, that is) will latch on to your extremes and miss the broader message about risk and safety.
