Most people get one of these things called a mortgage. Say it. M-o-r-t-g-a-g-e. It enables you to borrow several times your annual earnings (between 3 and 6 times, depending on how qualified you are, and how quickly you're likely to climb up the career ladder, or much more if you've got a dodgy financial advisor). That way you only have to put down about 10% or so to buy a place. It's called a deposit. You may have heard the words "house deposit" or "deposit for a house" before. Write it down. So if you've saved up £7k in cash, and you're still living with the parents, it shouldn't be *too* long before you can get a place of your own. Of course, more cash and decent earnings helps a lot in getting a decent place and being able to afford it.
