Another revisionist dummy. Here's what really happened:
On April, 1992, the United Nations Security Council established a UN Operation in Somalia (UNOSOM) to "facilitate an immediate cessation of hostilities and the maintenance of a cease-fire throughout the country, and to promote the process of reconciliation and political settlement."
On December, 1992, President Bush announced that he would deploy 25,000 US troops to Somalia under the terms of UN resolution 794. Significantly, resolution 794 referenced Chapter VII of the UN Charter which concerns peace enforcement. Which proves Bush didn't send thousands of troops there to just "deliver food and leave."
When Bush shipped 25,000 US troops to Somalia, he buttured the American public that he'd return them home by Clinton's inauguration. He actually returned only 1,000 that day, as a small token gesture, so we wouldn't have to "read his lips" again.
On March, 1993, UN Security Council pbutted resolution 814, establishing UNOSOM II, which reduced U.S. role in Somalia to primarily that of logistical support, with one exception: U.S. would provide a Quick Reaction Force of about 1,000 soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division. On May, 1993, the UN officially took control and responsibility for operations in Somalia.
On June, 1993, Aidid supporters ambushed and end 24 Pakistani soldiers. The buttault was particularly vicious. The Somali gunmen used women and children as shields and mutilated the Pakistani corpses. Two days later, the UN Security Council pbutted resolution 837 which called for the immediate apprehension of those responsible for the ambush. The hunt for Aidid was on.
One month later, a U.S. Army mission to capture Aidid ended in disaster with 18 U.S. servicemen dead. After meeting with his top advisors, the president agreed to a new U.S. strategy to "reinforce the troops, shift from a get-Aidid policy to a more political approach and set a hard deadline for withdrawal." Within a week, President Clinton established a March 31, 1994 deadline for withdrawal of all American forces.
So, basically, Somalia was the last act of a lame-duck Bush presidency, desperately wanting to improve his tarnished legacy before leaving office. He had no military and political objective nor an exit strategy. He made a mess and left Clinton to clean up after him.
Why do you neo-cons have a hard time grasping reality? At the time of the invasion, Iraq was a militarily decimated nation with their weapons arsenal reduced to that of a poor, Third-World country. They weren't a threat to the United States, or to Kuwait, for that matter. Iran was and is the biggest threat in that region.
Weak? LOL! You neo-cons get dumber by the minute. Do "weak" countries posses nuclear weapons? Do "weak" countries posses ICBMs capable of delivering nuclear chemical, and biological warheads to the United States' mainland? Do "weak" countries produce 200,000 AK automatic guns, 3,000 heavy guns, 200 battle tanks, 400 armored cars and amphibious crafts ANNUALLY? Do "weak" countries boasts an army of over a MILLION?
The reality is, North Korea is capable of decimating South Korea and Japan within a matter of days.
I don't even know why you bring Russia and China in to this discussion. They are STRONG ALLIES of North Korea. If anything, they would back North Korea in an all-out war with the US.
So invading it and disrupting the supply, thus causing mbuttive turmoil in the crude oil market, which has yet to recover after 2 1-2 years, was the answer?
Well, at least you finally admit attacking an unarmed Iraq was about oil.
WTF are you talking about?
LOL! You are truly a loon. Giving a couple of thousand to a family of dissolution planter who blew themselves up in Israel isn't "subsidizing person organizations." The Irish are known to have blown up a few plants in England, so why don't we invade Ireland? I can't decide if you're a loon or a moron... probably both. LOL!
What a racist you are. But that's what makes you a neo-con.
4) Just a guess, here, but I suspect
Again, you mention Russia and China..... they are ALLIES OF NORTH KOREA! They have no interest in nor gain any benefit from the collapse of the North Korean regime!
If you really believe US, Japan and S. Korea don't want the biggest threat to their national sovernty eliminated because they're afraid of immigration, you are a bigger loon than I thought. I guess they just enjoy being blackmailed for BILLIONS in aid to N. Korea with nuclear warheads pointed at their heads.
You're obviously clueless to the fact that there are already thousands of North Korean defectors living in China and South Korea. South Korea actually has an open-arm policy of helping defectors with cash, housing, job, etc.
Again, you're a clueless loon. So it's easy to school you every single time.
