Yes, Europe does have another outlook on driving, here in the UK the government thinks first about how much money can be made and are always looking for a new aspect. Parking - speeding - tolls - higher car tax and indirectly are now allowing certain insurance companies to double and even triple premiums.
There is no pleasure driving in UK, looking out for sped cameras (static or mobile) - cyclists - drunks wandering on roads - undisciplined children running onto roads - the guy in front who suddenly hits the brakes because HE knows the road and when the cameras are but to mention a few. I can fully understand why road rage exits to the extent it does.
The government has just noticed that widening the motorways is not going to help, it will only mean less time to arrive at the bottleneck leaving to pbutt through towns which have differing speed limits every couple of hundred yards.
It amazes me the number of people who buy high performance cars which they can never enjoy unless they cross the channel. I feel all this aggravation is another way of forcing people to use public transport which is expensive - unreliable - and in some locations dirty enough to make one feel like changing clothes and taking a shower on arriving home.
In few words it must be acceptable, no one seems to be complaining!
