Well, another 2000 miles and two weeks in France. This is my third visit, first two being in the South West of France and this one in Brittany.
Yet again I have been impressed with the consistency of French Drivers. Yes, they tailgate badly, but they are so predictable in other ways. On duel carriageways the lane discipline is excellent with drivers moving back right quickly after overtaking.

Ok, YMMV in Paris for example, but in my experience there is little 'revenge' taken, little in the way of open hostility and battling for the road. As soon as I got back to the UK at 1am, I was struck by how poor the driving was on the drive up the A2-M2-M25-A1. Even at that time of the morning drivers appeared to go out their way to trip over each other.
Roadworks is another one. In 2000 miles throuought Brittany, I saw roadworks in one place at a new roundabout. I didn't get held up in any queues ANYWHERE for the two weeks. I get off the ferry at Dover and travel towards the M25 on the M2 at 1am. I get to the M25 exit slip but its closed. I had to go to the next junction and come back to the M25. I get on the M25 to see a 1 mile queue of traffic on the other side!
I didn't see a single parking attendent, yet the French park just about anywhere but everything keeps flowing. Most car parks are free in small towns and even in the big ones you can park half day for 2 euro! Petrol was around 80 per ltr in most places too.
Back from France 607Yes, Europe does have another outlook on driving, here in the UK the government thinks first about how much money can be made and are...
