off revs.

Careful Conor, your ignorance is showing. For a start a synchromesh unit is not a gear, and gearbox oil like any other oil only reduces wear. It doesn't remove wear altogether.

The idea of a synchro is to 'synchronise' the speed of the two shafts carrying the gears, before the dog clutches are engaged. Hence the name. Change too fast, before the synchros can do their job, and the two parts of the dog clutch grate together, because one half is still spinning faster than the other.

It does not. The two gears are synchonised by using engine revs in neutral. Thus when the gear lever is moved to engage the gear, the synchro units have nothing to do. Simple logic which is apparently beyond your comprehension.

Perhaps you'd explain why you believe I am wrong, but knowing you, when it comes to explaning 'your halfbaked ideas' you seldom take up the challenge. Probably because you realise you can't explain them. You believe them to be true without knowing why.

You don't know how many miles I've done with a crash box. In any case, even if you have done more, does that automatically make you right?

where if I tried to double declutch like you do, I'd end

Obviously you're the one who doesn't understand the mechanics of a crash box, as you are most definitely wrong.

and slips,

Thus showing how little you know about how synchros work, and how they interact with the dog clutches. Mike.
