That road used to be 40 mph from a several hundred metres back into Snorbens. The police used to stand on the uphill side from the M10 bridge, just by the entrance of the Midway surgery. If you knew this, you looked for them as you came down the hill to the bridge, just in case.
Bloody joke. 627Brimstone Well, the RoSPA, IAM and driving instructer side of me wants to agree, yet an understanding of how the average driver thinks, doesn't. Your average driver will go reasonable happy through...
The 30 mph limit was brought in several years ago as part of the Herts CC blanket programme to annoy motorists by forcing slower speeds on roads that were perfectly safe for sensible drivers and to clutter the roads with hideous street furniture. The silliest case I can think of is as you approach Park Street from Radlett. Just before Smug Oak Lane, the limit on Watling Street (previously NSL) changes from 40 to 30. Turn left into Smug Oak Lane, and there are signs for the 40 limit that applies there (also used to be NSL). Why not just apply the 30 limit PAST the turning and save the taxpayers' money? The unlit lane has 40 mph repeaters, which are very obtrusive after dark, IMHO detracting from safety instead of improving it. Mind you, a large percentage of drivers using the road never seem to have heard of main beam, so it probably doesn't matter much. -- Peter
