If you want the real cause of high gas prices, look up the last time a refinery was built in the USA. It's been over 30 years, and government regulations, environmentalists and other groups have made it close to impossible to build one. Besides, who wants a refinery in their backyard ? Oil companies are not charity organizations and have to recoup their long term costs of oil exploration with short range profits. Why do al liberals think profits are bad ? Without profits, oil companies cannot finance new exploration and cannot increase supply, let alone build a muti billion dollar refinery. Besides, the profits belong to the shareholders, the American people.
Need I explain why a lower market price would lead to shortages ?
Like you, Al Gore claims to care about the environment, his plan was to raise gas prices to curb consumption (through taxes, the liberal way). Just read anything he wrote concerning the environment. Anyway, when gas prices do go up, all the liberals who wanted this to happen start to complain. Peak oil production here in the USA was over 30 years ago, and peak worldwide oil production will happen soon after 2010, so expect more shortages and higher prices. You are living in a fantasy world if you think gas prices will stay below 2-gallon forever.
"For example, Gore was the chief advocate of the proposed 1993 BTU Tax, which would have raised gas prices by 65 cents. Gore proclaimed in his environmental manifesto Earth In The Balance that 'higher taxes on fossil fuels ... is one of the logical first steps in changing our policies' to suit the Gore environmental agenda. Gore endorsed the proposal of radical environmentalist Paul Erlich to raise gas prices to the levels 'in Europe and Japan.' And Gore told PBS earlier this year that he was 'proud' of casting the tie-breaking vote in 1993 to raise gas taxes.
And if you care about our soldiers, you should support the troops until they carry out their mission. Even Hillary Clinton, the liberals choice for the presidency so far, thinks we should stay the course (although she seems to be playing both sides of the issue, just like kerry did).
"I do not believe that we should allow this to be an open-ended commitment without limits or end," wrote Clinton. "Nor do I believe that we can or should pull out of Iraq immediately."
