I wish to get breakdown service, but dont know which as: The AA for the top option is £141 a year Tesco for the top option is £79 a year Does anyone know if Tesco are any good? Hello,
All you need to do is look at what each one offers, then at the silly prices the AA and RAC charge amongst others. I looked at every single service I could find including Direct Line who my car is insured with. They couldn't offer a service I required. Tesco use Green Flag, and other breakdown services can also send someone completely different out. A name doesn't mean anything these days as a lot of work is franchised out. At least with tesco you will not get a salesman stopping to fix your car then trying to sell batteries and things. The AA were on one of the consumer programs on TV a while back. Tesco = best value for services offered. I saved a fortune being with them instead of the RAC , and the AA didn't even come close.
What you have to watch out for is the smallprint. Some breakdown services say things like "1 hour free labour at the roadside" which means you pay to be with them, then pay again for the repair if it takes a while as some insist they spend the hour before towing you away. Then you have to consider if it is only to a local garage, what if it charges more than another one? No doubt there is an agreement between some garages on where cars are taken. You might be left at 3AM if a local garage doesn't happen to be open, so what are they going to do with your car then!
I paid for the Tesco cover as I could go and pick it up in a store without some silly sales person on the end of the phone. It covered me immediately from purchase and I get home start, relay, accomodation and phonecalls to friends-relatives - everything I could ever need.
So it pays to shop around and read exactly what is on offer.
