A lot of insurance companies sell breakdown cover as an optional extra with their policies - *maybe* cheaper than you can buy it direct. But be very careful about the *level* of cover you're getting.

The cheapest level will attend to you at the roadside (provided you're not at home or within a specified distance from home) and tow you to the nearest garage if they can't fix it.

More expensive options will take you and the vehicle to your original destination (or home if you prefer) *and* provide a hire car or overnight accommodation.

For an extra fee, you can have Home Start (i.e. they will respond even if you are at or near home) or personal cover - which covers you for any vehicle you may be driving or travelling in.

One company which always comes out well in the Which? reports is Green Flag. They also have a special deal for Caravan Club members (which you're unlikely to be!) whereby if you break down on the way to a holiday destination while towing your caravan, they will transport you and the caravan to your destination *and* home again at the end of the holiday, if your car hasn't been fixed by then. -- Cheers, Set Square Please reply to newsgroup.
