I use Equity Red Star Motor Policies at Lloyds via AutoAid for £29. I express it this way to highlight the fact that a number of companies use this policy, and rebrand it under their own name and then flog it for what they think they can get ! -

- Roadside Repair - Recovery - Vehicle, driver & 5 pbuttenger to a place of their choice - Alternative Travel - Where neither of the above options is taken. Driver & 5 pbuttengers to destination or back home and a later collection journey by driver. - Emergency Hotel Accommodation - Where none of the above options is taken. Driver & 5 pbuttengers get the cost of hotel accommodation. - Home Breakdown - Repair of recovery to garage. Limit of £45. - Theft or Vandalism - Recovery to home or selected garage. - Caravan & Trailers (standard 2" coupling, max length 10') - Repair or recovery.
All my cars are serviced (which I believe is the easiest way to prevent problems) and I've used it 3 times -
- ran out of fuel due to a cracked fuel pipe. Called out the local garage (20 minutes). Drove me 5 miles home then dropped off the car at the garage in the local town, 7 miles away.

- car stopped due to wet electronics. It was working again by the time the recovery truck arrived (45 minutes). Helpful mechanic gave the car a general check and noting the rotor arm was worn, advised me to change it and was gobsmacked when I produced a new one from the boot !
- battery (1 year old) didn't give enough power to start. I called my local garage (15 minutes). Stupid KwikFit battery adapter terminals at fault.
