But yes, I could get a car home without a clutch cable, and have done so in the past, when I had less money. But the method you describe puts mbuttive wear onto the starter motor, which is not designed to propel the weight of the entire car.

Similarly, you can gravity feed *some cars* from a petrol can, I used to do exactly that when I used to do banger racing. But I don't happen to carry a petrol can and several feet of piping and buttorted clips, drill, sealant, etc

I even had a Triumph Herald with manually controlled brake lights for over six months(shudder)

As for all of the other bodge jobs you suggest, while I would be able to do any of those myself, I very much doubt Mrs KotR would or could, and I wouldn't want her to do try anyway with my two children in the car.
