I use cruise control quite often as it helps to keep under the speed limit without the need to keep checking the speedo so often. Especially useful on the A3 approaching London where there are several speed cameras of the old grey box variety. I also find it useful on long stretches of 30 mph limit. Typically a couple of miles long with light traffic and speed cameras (4 minutes).
Both of my cars have cruise and one will only engage above 27 mph, the other will engage at 20 mph, which is very useful on a stretch of 20 limit which is about a mile long in Portsmouth (3 minutes).
On a motorway I usually drive at about 60 in L1. I then have the choice of speeding up to overtake a slower vehicle, this doesn't switch off the cruise. As soon as I'm pbutted and release the accelerator the cruise takes me back down to 60. Or I can temporarily switch it off if I need to slow down and then resume when the road clears. Again without the need to check the speedo so often, but safe in the knowledge that I am under the limit.
