That's about the same here. If I know that the stop is going to be of the order of several minutes (like if I get caught at a local level crossing which can often be five minutes or more), I'll apply the parking brake, select 'P' and switch off. However, circumstances where I KNOW that I'm going to be stationary for more than few minutes are actually quite uncommon and I'll usually only select 'N' for the extended stops (like some local traffic lights where I know the sequence and arrive at just the wrong time). Other than that it's just parking brake and 'D' with my foot on the footbrake until someone is behind me and then I'll do them the favour of not having to stare at brake lights.
I have heard the same thing.
Perhaps... we'll have to wait and see what the official publications say.
At least between *that particular* examiner and RoSPA. I have not seen any official guidance that says change to 'N' for every stop of more than a few seconds. I'll have a look in the DSA books tonight and see what they say about autos.
Perhaps. I doubt it though and people certainly won't do it after they have pbutted.
