It still wouldn't cover that - to track your every move they'd have to have total coverage of every section of every road everywhere. Even using CCTV they don't have that in cities. Think about the cameras already installed and in use by the police to track shoplifters through city centres. The camera usually sits on a corner and is steered by the operator. Whilst its doing that it can't be reading car numberplates - and it can only do it in one direction.
this is not total surveillance. And if you're worried about that we come back to the mobile phone-bank card argument - they can already track you if you use those. Do they? Has a single person been arrested for no reason having been tracked?
I'm glad you agree that this scheme does not proviude the total coverage referred to by the journalist. Can you tell me why the government wants to track everyone all the time? What it would do with the information? How much money would it have to spend just tracking me alone committing no crimes whatsoever? What value is there for a government is following everyone everywhere doing nothing of interest?
If this new scheme eradicates the menace of uninsured cars then yes, it is for our own good.
