IAM Mechanical Sympathy 1158
Mark Foster The only way to get a true feel for the characteristcs of a vehicle is by driving it, and I can't drive every car ever built. However...

Thanks again.

She is going to see her own doctor on Friday on another matter and she will ask the doctor for his opinion on her injury.

It may well be that he feels she might be able to do some limited driving (limited, in order to give the injury a chance to heal) and might therefore be inclined to give her a doctor's note to that effect.

The day-to-day consequences of not being able to drive are severe as she lives in an isolated rural area, about 5 miles from a small country town, and there are no bus services we know about (I suppose there might be a once-per-week bus service). The nearest train station is about 3 or 4 miles away and the trains run every 3 hours. Not much use!

Our son attends a boarding school about an hour's drive away as a day- pupil. Fortunately she has been able to arrange at very short notice that he boards for a few weeks. I work away during the week and I am only around at weekends and not recently as the company I work at has been stacked-out with work and I have had to work a number of weekends recently.

City-Slickers like you and I can easily find alternative transport and even a taxi would be a practical alternative, but out in the country you soon realise how dependent you are on motor transport. -- Mr X
