This is *exactly* the thinking that got us SUVs. Remember, SUVs were a very small part of the road fleet before CAFE. Think "unintended consequences".

You're not dong this right. Take that F-150 vs Mini Cooper comparison. Do you really think this is a fair fight? Do you *really* think the pickup driver is more likely in that crash to come off worse? The hell with damage to the truck itself; I have very good insurance for that. You might want to consider how such crash ratings are made: against fixed barriers. A Mini Cooper is not a fixed barrier, and will come off the worse for wear. And you're missing a lot of why people buy SUVs; it's definitely not just safety. I'd for sure rather drive 4 people in comfort than cram them into a 35mpg clam. I also need a vehicle that will carry my scooter. Your Mini Cooper won't do that. I also tow; again, your Mini Cooper sucks there.
