That's because California's public transit sucks!
If California as a whole would actually develop transit systems that run at 5 or 10 minute frequencies, 24 hours per day-7 days per week--instead of 30 minutes or 1 hour frequency with routes ending as early as 8pm to 10pm, public transit would be a much viable alternative to driving.
California: Land of f***ups 2302Scott en Aztl‡n San Diego once had an amazing trolley and cable car system. It was all removed, because nobody could stay profitable running them. I'd love to skip the 4...
If California as a whole would actually develop transit systems that didn't have all the hbuttles of day pbutt A for transit system A is only good for a single ride on transit system B... then perhaps more people in California would actually use public transit. I could see, for example, maybe having something like day pbutt A on transit system A requires a fare upgrade for transit system B, but having to buy multiple day pbuttes because each transit system only accepts the other day pbutt for a single ride becomes more expensive to use transit than the cost of a gallon of gas.
If California as a whole would actually develop transit systems that have more express-direct routes, even if they cost more than the local loop routes, it wouldn't take 1 hour or more and 2 or more buses to get from the same point A to point B that could be done in 20 or 30 minutes of direct driving by car or SUV.
As it is now, until gas prices reach $5.00 per gallon, I'll still drive and public transit systems can go to hell for all I care.
