Most likely, all the way to getting the OP paid for his damages. Insurance companies back off and quit giving you a hard time if you tell them the other party was charged with the accident by the police. OP should get a copy of the police report if possible.
New car, about two weeks old, was hit by a beer truck while I was making a left turn into my driveway. Guy took out the entire driver's side of my car and part of the front end. He was behind me, couldn't stop, so tried to pbutt me on the left but had to cut back in fast because there was on-coming traffic. He didn't even have the proper clbutt license to be driving that truck.
The police charged him with the accident and cited him for numerous violations. When his insurance company called me, the first thing they said, "There is some question of liability here, you are trying to say this accident was our insured's fault and it was not." My reply, "Well, the police seem to think it was all his fault because the report I have in front of me says he didn't even have a license to be driving that truck, pbutted illegally on a solid white line, pbutted on the crest of a hill, was driving too fast for conditions, ..." The caller quickly asked if I had a fax machine and could fax a copy of the police report to them. I faxed the report, and was paid for my car in a short time. GET THE POLICE REPORT.
