Well, not exactly. You see, *all* BMWs (at least since the late '60s) are "E-series" - unless you really meant that you say "I drive an E39 Bimmer." Even that is on the redundant side because anyone who knows what the "E-series" is already knows that it's a BMW and most of us who do will also know *which* BMW. Anyone who doesn't won't care about the "Entwicklungsnummer" ('Development number' - they're chronological, not all reach production, and we're up to at least the E90 now) for your car's basic body-chbuttis.
I drive an E28. I have an E3 sitting in the barn. The more knowledgeable among this group would instantly know that I'm a Sedan Guy because the former is a mid-'80s 5 Series and the latter is a '70s sedan known in the US as, among other things, the Bavaria. I also have a Type 44 Audi, but that's another thread and another group entirely.
Technically, you *ride* a Beemer, but that's getting petty. Maybe simpler and slightly more correct to say '*have* both a Beemer & a Bimmer'.
No; this is a bane peculiar to the BMW community. In many areas of the US, as well as among what fanatics like me and the OP regard as the ignorant mbuttes, it's common to refer to BMW autos as "Beemers". I don't like it, but that's the way it is. This is at least part of the reason I refer to my Cinnabar Red '88 535is as "Da Red Dog" or simply "Da Dog". It's shorter. -- C.R. Krieger (Not quibbling)
