Wonderful! I did not know much of this useful information and I do appreciate the advice for myself and for the 'great unwashed mbuttes' (even they can benefit from the proper use of English names).
Let's try this again (in order of suitability & meaningfulness): - I drive a Beemer (is both meaningless & idiomatically unsuitable?) - I drive a BMW (is correct usage but identifies almost nothing?) - I drive an E-series (is nearly meaningless but idiomatically correct?) - I drive a Bimmer (is correct usage but again identifies little?) - I drive a BMW 525 (is correct usage but often identifies little?) - I drive an M5 (is correct usage but again identifies very little?) - I drive an E39 (is correct usage to identify a particular body style?) - I drive an M52 (is correct usage to identify an engine model?) - I drive an E39 M52 (is correct to identify a body & engine model?) - I drive a Bimmer with I-Drive (is correct usage but shows bad taste?)
Likewise, with motorcycles, that which I know less of; is this now correct? - I drive a Beamer (is both meaningless & idiomatically unsuitable?) - I ride a Bimmer (would be meaningless & just as unsuitable?) - I ride a K12 (would be somewhat meaningful & idiomatically suitable?) - I ride an RT (would be suitable to identify a type of Beemer?) - I ride a GS (would be suitable to identify a type of Beemer?) - I ride an RS (would be suitable to identify a type of Beemer?) - I ride an airhead (would be meaningful & idiomatically suitable?) - I ride a flying brick (would be meaningful & idiomatically suitable?)
Who knows, someone decades from today may refer to this post to define the proper usage and point out the improper usages of the day.
