Cars for 'comfort

What depresses me about the dissolution of MG Rover is the fact that we have lost the one manufacturer still specialising in cars designed for 'comfort' rather than sportiness. The 75 was superb in this respect - quiet, refined, and with a ride quality second to none. Whenever I ride in a car other than my 75 I am constantly aware of the jarring and thumping over road imperfections that my 75 just irons out. It's not for nothing that the 75 came out as number 1 for ride quality in the recent Auto Express 'Driver Power' survey. The fact is that not everyone is obsessed with 0-60 figures and with ultimate road holding at the expense of ride comfort - those who aren't, however, are poorly served by the manufacturers. There have been many comments about Rovers being cars for old men - well why not? ! Older men tend to have more money (and often more sense!) than younger men and know what is more important for them. Far more older men buy new cars, I would suggest, simply because they have reached the stage in life when they have money to spare. Sad that they are so poorly catered for in the motoring arena.
