Indeed. And if it doesn't need to be on the spot (apparently this is the case because of "comms"), why isn't it all simply centralised at HQ in Swansea? That would save all those regional office rents, business rates and utility bills you are so concerned about.

I suppose it boils down to why Manchester registration applicants need an office on the doorstep while Liverpool's don't?

There is no-one more aware of Liverpool's problems than I am. Other cities have the same problems. Manchester's would be as bad or worse, were it not for the blatant bias towards it shown by government, which leads to so many forms of government support not given to its bigger neighbour.

Liverpool is actually at the *other end* of the M62 from the one you are thinking of.

You mean the government decided yet gain to site a regional outpost (and its jobs) in Manchester. What a surprise.
