They have to meet whatever is expected of them. If, say, you need a cheap power tool that's only going to be used twice in its entire life for example then it's a good choice. If you're a commercial builder you'll buy something that will last.
Price tends to be a better indicator of likely longevity and build quality than the country of origin.
There's no excuse for SUVs being less safe. The legislation needs to be changed.
I was making the point about another category of imported goods that often come from China.
