But I would prefer a say on individual issues, since voting for a party is always a compromise. I don't think that the party political system has benefitted society.
I think that the problem is representatives. They don't do what they are told, or always do what the majority of their consbreastuents require. Most of the time they don't even ask their consbreastuents, instead following the party line or their own consciences. This is not democracy.
Since we can't trust our representatives, and the technology exists to canvbutt everyone's opinion, that is what we should do IMO. Every citizen should have the right to vote on every issue, and an MP's vote should carry no more weight than that of you or I. Basically government by referendum.
The problem is that politicians have too much power. I would remove the power, and restrict them to public (televised) debates on the issues of the day, and implementing the will of the people. The people may not always be right, but I think that they are no less likely to get it wrong than politicians.
