Cobalt or Focus 3592

Same Surprise for over 30 years
We've all come upon a situation where high-speed traffic on a freeway suddenly slows to...

Those are tougher questions than you might think. Do you go with the newly-released Cobalt, which most people agree is very much better than the Cadavalier it replaces (it could scarcely be worse), but on which there is no long-term reliability or durability track record? OR, do you go with the Focus, an outdated design that has a spotty-to-poor reliability-durability track record which Ford swears is all in the past, now that they've finally fixed all the problems? How lucky do you feel?

Totally depends what you buy. Cobalt SS wins vs. ordinary Focus, but Focus ZX5 probably wins vs. ordinary Cobalt. I'm guessing here.

Cobalt or Focus 3593
The US Focus is essentially the same basic design as the 1999-2004 Ford of Europe Focus, but decontented. Some of the...

Does it matter? Both GM and Ford will probably file for bankruptcy within the next two years.

Bullpoo. The Focus is not "European tuned inspired", whatever you think that means. The old-design Focus, no longer sold anywhere except North America, was Ford's halfbaked, PR-spun effort at a "world car". That does not mean, however, that the Focus sold in the US was the same as the one sold elsewhere. Suspension tuning, equipment, materials, build quality, brakes, etc. were all markedly different. The rest of the world gets a new Focus based on a Mazda platform which we don't get in North America. But just because a car of the same shape and size and with the same "Focus" nameplate was sold in Europe, and Ford had pbuttably good marketeers, does not mean the Focus was "European tuned inspired".
