Comfort Braking 1102So why don't they adjust their speed down because of this? I'm damm sure I would slow down in my car if I was meeting this type of hazzard daily. Oh, did I...
Cessna172 formulated on Friday :
Mark indicated that he was picking the point at which to do the 'test'. This suggests that little if any thinking or thinking distance is involved in that test. He is just making sure the road is clear and then doing a braking test starting at the point he decides.
He is not starting the excercise cold - just innocently driving normally along the road, with the unexpected happening in front of him and him then needing to go though a process of thinking out the correct responce then acting.
Agreed, but I suggest most cannot get it together within the distances they do allow themselves. Getting it right is a process which needs to be well practised, so that they can quickly work out the best options and do it accurately - such that it becomes second nature.
I believe we all go through a learning process to enable us to become reasonably good at estimating these distances. We get caught out by an incident, decide it was a little too close for comfort and modify distance to allow a little more margin.
As the winters bad weather approaches, I tend to overstep my 'marks' a little having become used to the good summer weather and good grip on the road. I then back off a little to compensate.
