She has the political equivalent to a mind-meld. It's called political capital, and it can go a long way to persuading...

Yes. It's a joke. Can you get that?

Who pbutted all that stuff? Are you saying Granholm was able to put the mind-meld on the Legislature and force them, against their will, to pbutt those taxes? Wow - I didn't know she was a superhero.

And yes, we had a Republican controlled legislature under Engler. They wiped out the rainy-day fund, remember? During good economic times, both at the state and national level, no effort was made to plan for the future.

See, I have a savings account. I put money into and hold onto it. Then, when things are tough, or prices skyrocket, or my income drops, I have something to fall back on. Now, philosophically, I understand that conservatives feel that government having a savings account for bad times is not a good idea. But you better be ready to take tough action when times get tough.

A 30s style economic depression will do more damage to the environment than increased energy capacity. However IMO the environment ceased to...

What entrenched are you referring to? A quick Google says that 70% of the Senate termed out in 2002, and all of them will be gone by 2006. The Legislature termed out in 2000. You don't get a pbutt for a lifetime if you were holding office when the law went into effect. Or are you referring to Senate leader Ken Sikkema, who has been holding office in the Legislature since 1986? Yeah, after he termed out in the House, he ran for Senate. He's the only "entrenched" I could easily think of. Oh, wait - Alan Cropsey. He's been around forever, too.

No, actually I wasn't. I didn't like Engler, but I'm smart enough to understand that, while a governor (or president) can introduce or support legislation, it requires a congress willing to pbutt it. Of course, the Republicans have had control of the Senate at least since 1999 (couldn't find any statistics going back farther) and have had outright control of the House since 1999, but had control or shared control for all but two years snce 1993.
